Beat the bloat

If you want to stop feeling bloated, follow our healthy tips . . .

You have the perfect outfit planned for your dinner date, but after too many fizzy drinks earlier in the day you’re so bloated it barely fits. Abdominal bloating is common, but fortunately it can be avoided pretty easily. Here are three tips to help you:

  1. Too little fibre and fluids lead to constipation which can cause bloating. Drink the recommended daily water intake and eat enough fibre.
  2. Eating too fast and not chewing your food properly can cause you to swallow too much air, which will make your stomach swell. So slow down when you’re eating. Chewing gum can also result in you swallowing air and trapping it in your belly; rather suck on a mint.
  3. Instead of fizzy drinks, have a glass of water flavoured with mint and lemon, as the fizz in your soda can cause gas to get trapped in your belly, causing it to swell.
