YOU Miss Teen Cindy Matika is far more than just a pretty face. The matriculant from Marian College, in Johannesburg South, attained 8 distinctions in her final exams! We caught up with the gorgeous 18-year-old, who also blogs for us, for some inspiration.

What were your results?

English 83%, Afrikaans 88%, Business Studies 93%, Mathematics 87%, Mathematics 3 80%, Life Orientation 84%, Physical Science 89%, Accounting 83%.

How did you cope with the pressure of exams?

I prayed a lot. I took lots of breaks while I was studying and I did things I enjoyed such as singing and dancing. Those things helped me take my mind of my studies. I also blogged for YOU.

We like the sound of that! Tell us though, exactly how hard did you work?

I worked extremely hard. It was difficult juggling my studies, my modelling and my blogging.

So what are your future plans?

I plan to move overseas in August. I have applied to study political economy and business degrees at a number of universities – I have sent applications to New York University, Columbia University, Harvard University and Florida International University. Meanwhile, I plan to carry on with my modelling and maybe find a part-time job. I would like to be in the business field, and to one day own my own company. What advice do you have for the future matrics? Work hard because it is your last year. You really need to give it your best. If you have given your best, then that is enough.

'Work hard because it is your last year. You really need to give it your best'

I am so grateful to God for bringing me through a tough year of Matric. It’s only because of Him that I could get such great results. I’m also grateful to my parents. They motivated me and encouraged me to do my best and I'm glad I could make them proud. It’s the least I could do.
