Seven creative uses of Cerebos salt – including one that could win you a Mediterranean cruise worth R70 000!

We know that salt, in moderation, is an important part of a healthy diet and incredibly useful when cooking, but how many of these more creative, alternative uses of salt have you tried?

1. Fresh flowers

A dash of salt added to water in a vase will keep cut flowers fresh longer.

2. Soothe bee stings

Make a thick Cerebos salt and water paste and place over a sting to relieve pain.

3. Drip-proof candles

Soak new candles in a strong salt solution for a few hours, dry them well and they won’t drip when lit.

4. Renew your brooms

To stiffen up the bristles of a broom, old or new, add a handful of salt to a basin of warm water and soak overnight.

5. Extinguish grease fires

Keep a large container of Cerebos handy near your stove and oven. If a grease fire flares up cover the flames with salt.

6. Making play dough

You’ll need 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup cold water, 2 tablespoons cooking oil and food colouring. Knead together until it resembles bread dough and keep in an air-tight container in the fridge.

Cerebos is turning 70 and to celebrate the company is giving away a luxury Mediterranean cruise for two worth R70 000! To win use Cerebos salt to create a message celebrating its 70th birthday. Then take a photo of your masterpiece and post it on the Cerebos SA Facebook page.
