Betty White still finds work “a joy” at the age of 93.

The legendary actress has been in the business for over 75 years and has starred in hit TV shows including The Golden Girls and more recently, Hot in Cleveland. The latter is about to come to an end after six series, and Betty took time to reflect on the show during a chat with USA Today.

“I don't know about it helping my career. It's just that the public can't get rid of me. But I love it that way,” she laughed. “Usually, you get to a given age - and that's a couple of decades ago for me - and [work] dries up, but, oh, I've been so lucky. I'm 93 and I'm so healthy and strong. Work is just a joy. I know it can't go on forever, but I'm making the most of whatever comes along.”

Betty received two consecutive Screen Actors Guild Awards for her role as Elka Ostrovsky in Hot in Cleveland, which also starred Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick. But the gongs would almost have never happened as the star confessed she hadn’t planned to be in the show in the first place.

“They asked me to do the pilot. I said, ‘I’ll do it but I can't commit if the show gets picked up.’ And then we all did the pilot and we all fell in love,” she recalled. “I did the last show, too. And all the ones in between. It was a delightful experience.”

As well as her TV career, Betty has had success on the big screen too in films including The Proposal alongside Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. The star has so much experience under her belt she couldn’t help but share some words of wisdom for up and coming actors.

“Enjoy your work, but take it very seriously. Show up on time. Come in prepared. Learn your lines,” she said. “Don't ever think you can wing it, because you really can't. It shows in your eyes.”
