What's in a name? Big money! These are the most popular options for the new royal baby on betting sites.

Betting sites have been going into overdrive with punters weighing in on what the baby's name will be. These were of the most popular with Alice leading the pack.

Meaning: Of noble kind

“One punter has had 500 on Kate naming her girl Alice,” William Hill betting site spokesperson Rupert Adams says. “We believe the link could be that Kate wrote a dissertation on Lewis Carroll at university and of course, his most famous book was Alice in Wonderland.” Alice has been a popular name among British royals over the centuries most notably Queen Victoria’s second daughter and Prince Philip’s mom.

Meaning: God is my oath.

Elizabeth would be the most obvious choice if William and Kate decide to please his grandmother.

Meaning: The feminine of Charles, which means free man.

The name does have royal pedigree – there was a Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, from 1761 until 1818 – but this name could be chosen more as a nod to William’s dad, or even Kate’s sister Pippa, whose second name is Charlotte.
