Lance Armstrong always denied taking drugs during his incredible cycling career – but a new report reveals the damning truth

It was the most successful, best-organised programme for the distribution and use of illegal stimulants in the history of sport, it’s being said.

And the man at the centre of the scandal is none other than Lance Armstrong, until now perhaps the greatest cycling hero of all time. Yet it seems the blot on his name and the possibility of criminal prosecution doesn’t bother him much.

Rumours he used forbidden substances have been casting a shadow over the 41-year- old golden boy for years. The American has always dismissed them as rubbish, but now the United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) is baying for his blood. In August the agency closed its years-long investigation into him with a damning report of about 1 000 pages.
