Every nook and cranny along the wedding procession route was carefully scrutinised by British police.

While searching for explosives, police lifted drains, searched lampposts and even removed the coverings on pedestrian crossing buttons along the route from Westminster Abby to Buckingham Palace.

About 5 000 police officers are deployed for the day, 900 of which are stationed along the route of the wedding procession.

About 1700 serving soldiers line the route and act as ceremonial escorts for the wedding parade, which consists of Kate and William’s open-air horse-drawn carriage (IF IT RAINS THEY WILL BE IN THE GLASS COACH). and four other carriages

The Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, together with the Life Guards, offer added protection by escorting the carriages transporting Queen Elizabeth II and William and Kate.

It was also reported that snipers line the rooftops along the route.
