Book: John Connolly - The Whisperers

The border between Maine and Canada is porous. Anything can be smuggled across it: drugs, cash, weapons, people.

Now a group of former soldiers have begun smuggling artefacts looted from a museum in Baghdad.

Unbeknown to them, among those artefacts is a small locked box that contains something strange and terrifying.

Private detective Charlie Parker is called in to investigate when one of the men dies in mysterious circumstances.

Meanwhile the soldiers’ activites have attracted the attention of Herod, a reclusive man who looks like a walking corpse.

Like any Charlie Parker novel, it starts off deep and dark and gets deeper and darker. To help him unravel this mystery, Charlie calls on his old friends, Angel and Louis.

The mysterious figure of The Collector also returns and once more keeps the reader guessing whose side he’s on and what his endgame may be.

The Whisperers is a fast-moving thriller that entertains and excites.
