After a member of the Russian mafia is violently assassinated in New York, art student Matthew Bannon finds a bag with diamonds.

Matt discovers the gems are worth at least $13 million and realises that if he can sell them he and his stunning art professor girlfriend, Katherine, will be able to live happily ever after.

But the problem is the Russians want their diamonds back. They hire the Ghost, the same assassin who killed the diamond thief, and a female German assassin to hunt Matt down.

I’ve always felt past collaborations between Patterson and other writers have failed to produce really good thrillers. This one is the exception.

It’s a well-written, fast-paced, action-packed tale that would make a great movie.

There’s not too much you can say without spoiling the plot but halfway through Patterson and Karp spring a surprise which I’m sure very few readers will see coming.

This is the first of hopefully more collaborations between these two writers.
