Book: Maeve Binchy - Minding Frankie

This is an engaging story about a dysfunctional family and the eccentric Irish neighbourhood in which they live.

Baby Frankie is born in inauspicious circumstances. The product of a one-night stand, she’s placed in the care of her father, Noel Lynch, when her mother dies while giving birth to her.

Noel, a recovering alcoholic, isn’t really up to the job but luckily he can count on plenty of support from his super-religious parents, quirky American aunt and many of his neighbours in St Jarlaths Crescent in Dublin.

Instead of creating chaos Frankie’s arrival unites the community. But not everyone is pleased with the unconventional arrangement.

Nosy social worker Moira is convinced Frankie would be better off in a foster home.

Maeve Binchy has mastered the art of telling very real family tales that keep her readers spellbound. Minding Frankie is another gem from this prolific author whose strength lies in her well-rounded characters.
