Like your thrillers packed with action but with a straightforward, uncomplicated plot? Then this latest offering by Baldacci fits the bill perfectly.

It’s the fifth in his series on Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, former secret service agent-turned-private investigators.

Edgar Roy, who allegedly killed six men found buried on his farm, is awaiting trial in a maximum security facility for the criminally insane.

Since the bodies were found Roy has been in a catatonic state – he doesn’t speak at all and seems oblivious to his surroundings.

Sean and Michelle get called in by Ted Bergin, Roy’s attorney and Sean’s old friend and mentor, to help investigate the case. But on their way to their first meeting Sean and Michelle find Bergin shot dead in his car.

As the bodies pile up the mystery deepens. National security and the careers of rich and powerful people are at stake.

This is a real page-turner with the action continuing right up to the end.
