Book: Year of the Gherkin - John Dobson

Things aren’t looking too good for Jason Brydon. He’s overweight, doesn’t have a girlfriend, his credit card is maxed to the limit and his boss hates him and wants to have him fired.

But the Jasonator – as he likes to be known – is a man with a plan. He hopes sticking to his New Year’s resolutions will help him turn his sad life around. But will he get it right?

Written in diary form, this humorous novel is reminiscent of Sue Townsend’s Adrian Mole.

Jason is crass, obnoxious, desperate and tragically clueless – but also weirdly entertaining. If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted, undemanding read that will tickle your funny bone then this is a good choice.
