When a British mom recently opened a can of tuna to prepare her children's dinner, she was shocked to see two little, alien-like eyes peering back at her.

"I opened the top of the lid and saw a purply thing, a gut sack or intestine," Nottingham mother Zoe Butler (28) told the local paper. "Then I turned it round and pushed it with a fork and saw it looking back at me." "I dropped the fork, jumped back, screamed a bit and shouted for my nan to come and have a look."

After Zoe tweeted a picture of the creature, the social networking site was abuzz with speculation about what the tiny tuna monster could be.

The Telegraph reports the head "probably belonged to a Cymothoa exigua, or tongue-eating louse." According to the Natural History Museum, the parasite lives inside a fish, entering through its gills and attaching itself to the fish's tongue.

Zoe said she didn't show the parasite to her kids, so as not to put them off eating tuna.

"I just want[ed] to find out what it is and to make sure it doesn't happen to somebody else. “A lot of people said it could be aliens but obviously it wasn’t - sorry to disappoint.”
