In the horrifying video, a passenger is "dragged" off the plane "like a rag doll".

US Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz has been called out for "condoning" the behaviour of his staff after security dragged a bleeding man off an overcrowded plane on Sunday night. The CEO released a statement on Twitter:

But the uproar was mostly the result of a leaked e-mail he sent to all his employees, explaining that he stands behind them all. "Our employees followed established procedures for dealing with situations like this," he wrote. "While I deeply regret this situation arose, I also emphatically stand behind all of you, and I want to commend you for continuing to go above and beyond to ensure we fly right."

The airline prompted international outrage after a shocking video emerged of security dragging a man off a plane.

The US Airlines flight, which was waiting to take off at Chicago O'Hare Airport for Louisville, Kentucky, was full, according to reports.

Passengers were asked to volunteer to get off the flight, but no one did. Security then began to pick people at random.

According to witness Jayse Anspach, the man in the video was a doctor and had to be at the hospital the next day. Anspach tweeted: “It looked like he was knocked out because he went limp and quiet and they dragged him out of the plane like a rag doll.” Another passenger who was on the plane told The Courier-Journal: "A manager then told him security would be called if he refused to leave the plane. Three security guards then removed him from his seat while other passengers yelled in disgust."

The man was later allowed back into the plane but had blood running down his mouth and was clearly in distress -- repeating the words "They kill me, they kill me,"

A statement has since been released by the Chicago Police Department.

"69-year-old male Asian airline passenger” became “irate” aboard the flight and aviation officers “attempted to carry the individual off the flight when he 'fell'.” They then confirmed that one of the officers who was part of the struggle on the plane has since been put on 'leave'.
