Cleaning upholstery

First do a spot test at the back of the chair or couch or inside the hem of curtains. Whisk together a quarter cup of dishwashing liquid and a cup of water until it froths. Dab the froth onto the spot with paper towels or a bathroom towel. Rubbing will push the liquid or dirt into the fabric  and stuffing and the rubbing action could damage the fibres of the upholstery, so continue dabbing to draw out the stain. Scrape off the dirty suds, dab the area with a damp clean cloth and leave to dry.
