Closet reboot

Unless you’re extremely lucky and have a closet the size of Carrie Bradshaw’s, the change of season means changing your wardrobe and putting away the winter woollies to make way for more airy and light summer items.

Well, summer is upon us. It’s here, and a change in season means a change in wardrobe. It’s time to trade those winter clothes for sandals, short sleeves, dresses and shorts.

When storing your wardrobe, keep like together: all pants in one container, blouses in another and so on. Defining categories within storage will help you see how much of each you have, and it’ll make the reverse transition easier when it’s time to unpack in the cooler months.

I started by making piles.

  1. Winter
  2. Charity
  3. DIY
  4. Summer

It’s time to pack away your winter pile or move it to the back of the cupboard, underneath your bed, on the top shelf of your closet or off-site (in a garage, basement or attic).

Use a clear plastic container which will provide protection from potential elements, and make it

easy to see the contents. So, for example if you need your favourite jacket for a getaway in a cooler climate you can find it in a snap.

These are clothes I haven’t worn in the past two months. I believe if you haven’t worn something in the past two or three months you should consider donating it. Someone out there would definitely appreciate it.

These are things I don’t want to get rid of and I see potential in converting them into things I’ll make use of.

This made me smile. Summer is finally here. I unpacked last year’s summer pile and was amazed at what I found, including beautiful colourful scarves, T-shirts and dresses. I’m so excited! The scarves I can now use to create turbans, with which I’m obsessed at the moment. Don’t get rid of those silky square scarves just yet ? they make great headbands or turbans.

I found a lot of things I’d forgotten about . . . I even found my little notebook in which I’d set some goals for the year. Sometimes you think you’re going nowhere slowly, but reading through that made me realise I am going somewhere. I might not be where I want to be, but I’m definitely moving in the right direction, which makes me very happy.

Who knew spring cleaning would be this inspirational!

Happy summer, everyone!
