David Beckham says his two-year-old daughter Harper has begun to use Americanisms in her speech because of her family's lengthy stay in the US.

David Beckham says his daughter, Harper, has already picked up on American etiquette.

The retired soccer player and his wife, Victoria Beckham, have worked hard to instil good manners in their four children, Brooklyn (14), Romeo (11), Cruz (8) and two-year-old Harper, and he has revealed his little girl has started to use Americanisms in her speech due to the influence of her family's six-year stint in Los Angeles.

Speaking at the launch of the new flagship London store for jacket specialist Belstaff on Sunday, he told the Huffington Post UK, "Even my two-year-old daughter says, 'Please and thank you.' From living in America, she says, 'You're welcome'."

David and Victoria have a reported £125 million (R2 billion) fortune between them, but he insists their privileged children have to work hard for their luxuries, and the couple are always teaching their kids the importance of commitment, application and determination.

The 38-year-old added, "We try to lead by example, by showing them it's important to work hard. That's one of the key things me and my wife have always done, [both] before we had children, and now we have four children.

David has been able to spend a lot more time with his family since calling time on his 20-year soccer career in May, and while he and fashion designer Victoria (39) have many work commitments he insists nothing comes before their kids.

He said, "We juggle everything around the family because our main priority is the children, simple as that, and it always will be, but being hardworking is the best thing you can show children."
