Deadly snake comes off second best after getting caught in Australian redback spider's web

Here's another reason not to immigrate to Australia.

What happens when two of Australia’s deadliest creatures’ paths cross? Logic dictates when a snake and a spider face off, the snake’s almost ssss-sure to be the winner.

The spider we’re talking about here is thought to be the lethal Australian red-back, which is certainly not to be trifled with, especially when it’s hungry.

Jeff and Judy Simmons of Elmore in the state Victoria couldn’t believe their eyes when they went into their storeroom recently. Caught in a spider’s web was one of the most venomous snakes in the world: an Eastern brown snake which, together with the arachnid, is rated among Australia’s ten deadliest creatures.

The snake became a real feast for the spider, who was still nibbling on it the next day.

But this wasn’t the first time a snake had come off the worst after being caught in a spider’s web. Can you believe reptiles have even fallen prey to the ordinary daddy-long-legs?

Suddenly our Big Five don’t look so fearsome...
