Gynecologist Amanda Hess selflessly put her own delivery on backburner so that she could help Leah Johnson deliver her child.

One pregnant doctor took working up to the last minute to the next level after delivering another woman’s baby while she was in labor herself.

During her own labour pains, Amanda overheard some nurses talking about a woman who needed to deliver right away because her unborn baby was in distress.

The doctor who was meant to deliver Leah’s fourth child was out on a break, but was on his way back to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, in Kentucky, US. But Leah was already fully dilated.

Amanda, who already had her patient gown and was ready to give birth, realised that she needed to help the patient before things took a turn for the worse.

“Doctors are always thinking of their patients even when they’re a patient themselves,” says Amanda.

After realising there was no time to waste, Amanda quickly covered herself up with another gown, yanked on some boots and came to Leah's rescue.

“I just put on another gown to cover up my backside and put on some boots over my shoes, to keep from getting any fluid and all that stuff on me,“ she said.

To Amanda’s surprise, she knew the patient – she had done a check up on Leah a few days earlier.

She helped Leah delivered a baby girl – and gave birth to a daughter of her own, Ella Joyce, soon after.

The heroic doctor is now off duty for eight months’ maternity leave.

It’s definitely well-deserved after her good deed.
