2011. 125 min.

With Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson.

Director: Justin Lin.

Rating: 3/5

Also known as Fast & Furious 5, the latest instalment of this surprisingly long-lived franchise sees former FBI agent Brian (Walker) and his girlfriend, Mia (Jordana Brewster), bust out her brother Dom (Diesel) from police custody.

They take a job stealing cars from a moving train in one of the film’s many outstanding sequences but are double-crossed by a druglord (Joaquim de Almeida).

Dom plans a daring heist as revenge and assembles a few familiar faces from previous films as crew. Meanwhile supercop Hobbs (Johnson) is on their trail.

A ridiculously entertaining extravaganza of jaw-dropping stunts, exhilarating car chases and testosterone-fueled brawls, this film shows the series still has plenty of juice in its tank.

It’s refreshing to watch a blockbuster that doesn’t rely on soulless CGI but on flesh-and-blood characters to hold your attention.

And seeing macho stars Diesel and Johnson taking each other on in a fight alone is worth the rental price.

Bonus: commentary, featurette, deleted scenes.
