In a year crowded with superhero movies another comic-book character gets the blockbuster treatment. Unfortunately this silly CGI mishmash is a how-not-to guide.

Cocky test pilot Hal (Reynolds) has destroyed a plane and drawn the ire of co-pilot Carol (Lively) when he finds the crashed spaceship of an alien who gives him a ring and says he’s now part of the Green Lantern corps who keep peace in the universe.

Hal doesn’t want the responsibility but when Earth is threatened by a gigantic yellow blob of fear (yes, really) he has to step in.

I’m not familiar with the comic book and perhaps the Green Lantern is a great character but then this cheesy film doesn’t do him justice.

Hal goes from slacker to hero in five minutes, the dialogue is terrible and the villain laughable.

It has its moments but mostly feels like a pale, generic imitation of other, better movies.
