There are enough inspired comedic moments to make this installment worthwhile.

Manny the mammoth (voiced by Ray Romano) is still angst-ridden, this time about his teen daughter, Peaches (Keke Palmer), who does all the clichéd rebellious things teen girls do in movies. Then, with a complete disregard for historical accuracy, the continents break apart and Manny and his friends Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo) and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger (Denis Leary) drift away on an iceberg.

The first Ice Age film was a simple, touching tale and the two sequels had clever plot twists. But this one is crowded with new characters that don’t add much to the story and the pace is frantic to accommodate as many life-threatening situations as possible. Even Scrat the nutty squirrel, whose Looney Tunes-type escapades are always the highlight, seems to have run out of steam.

Luckily there are enough inspired comedic moments, mostly supplied by dim-witted Sid and a ridiculously cute tribe of savage dassies, to make up for it and the animation, from Blue Sky Studios, is once again top-notch.
