THIS wonderful film tells the true story of two remarkable women, bound by their love of good food.

In the 1950s Julia Child (Streep) – a 1,88 m tall, ever-cheerful woman with a huge appetite for life – accompanies her diplomat husband, Paul (Tucci), on a posting to Paris. To relieve her boredom she trains as a chef and with Paul’s support writes Mastering the Art of French Cooking (a classic still in print).

Skip to 2002. Inspired by memories of her mother cooking Julia’s recipes Julie Powell (Adams), an aspiring writer stuck in a bureaucratic job in New York, decides to cook all 524 recipes in Julia’s book in one year and write a daily blog about it. Like Julia she has the support of a loving husband, Eric (Messina). The blog becomes a hit and leads to the book this film is based on.

Streep is fantastic as the larger-than-life Julia. And with the rest of the cast in equally good form and impeccable direction this is a must-see celebration of yummy food that will leave you ravenous. Bonus: commentary, featurette. –
