If you’re addicted to the Twilight saga’s syrupy romance and sexy bodies you might struggle to sink your teeth into this highly unusual vampire flick.

This American remake of the Swedish cult hit Let the Right One In tells the story of 12-year-old Owen (Smit-McPhee) and his friendship with a vampire girl, Abby (Moretz).

Owen is badly bullied at school and has a hard time keeping his head above water in the maelstrom that is adolescence.

Abby arrives to teach him about love and fighting back – but Owen and the police start to smell a rat when one gruesome murder after the other hits the American town of Los Alamos. What follows is an unsettling yet moving tale.

Let Me In lacks the subtle tone of the Swedish original but is still very much worth seeing – that is, if you’re able to surrender to a horror film with soul and intelligence.
