With Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Diane Keaton.

Director: Roger Michell.

Rating: 3/5

Desperate for a job, any job, TV producer Becky Fuller (McAdams) agrees to take over a failing New York breakfast show called DayBreak.

After firing the useless anchorman on her first day she has to find a new partner for the long-standing anchorwoman, fiery Colleen Peck (Keaton).

She coerces grumpy veteran TV journalist Mike Pomeroy (Ford) into the job – but he refuses to do any of the “soft” stories the network executives want and argues with Colleen on air.

Can Becky turn the show’s fortunes around, get Mike to play ball and still find time for her new boyfriend?

There’s a serious question underneath the frothy comedy: is there room for serious journalism in a world of sugar-coated TV fluff?

This entertaining flick doesn’t provide any answers but Ford does manage to make you believe in his character’s integrity. Keaton is on witty form but it’s the agreeable McAdams who keeps you watching.

Bonus: commentary, deleted scenes.
