Fantasy adventure.

2010. 120 min.

With Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes and Will Poulter.

Director: Michael Apted.

Rating: 3/5

The third film to be adapted from CS Lewis’classic children’s fantasy sees the two youngest Pevensie kids, Lucy (Henley) and Edmund (Keynes), living with their odious cousin Eustace (Poulter) while World War 2 rages on.

But soon they’re back in Narnia to join Caspian (Barnes), now the king, on a voyage to find seven lost lords. Lots of episodic adventures ensue as they island-hop and encounter various strange creatures and deadly situations.

Luckily the two child actors who return, Henley and Keynes, are the best of the original four and Barnes is still on hand as suitable eye candy.

Poulter is excellent as the priggish Eustace who has to learn humility, and CG effects bring Aslan the lion and Reepicheep the warrior mouse credibly to life.

The Christian overtones might be a bit heavy-handed for some but parents can rest assured this is engaging entertainment for kids.
