Political thriller.

2010. 125 min.

With Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Williams and KimCattrall.

Director: Roman Polanski.

Rating: 4/5

WHEN he learns his predecessor died under mysterious circumstances a ghost writer (McGregor) is reluctant to take on the job of completing former British prime minister Adam Lang’s (Brosnan) memoirs but ends up doing it for the money.

His misgivings appear justified when a former foreign minister accuses Lang of war crimes relating to handing over supposed terrorists to the CIA for torture.

And when the ghost writer suspects Lang is involved in a huge international cover-up and starts asking uncomfortable questions people begin to die at an alarming rate.

The movie is slow to start but picks up pace like a runaway train with plenty of twists and turns to keep you focused.

There are obvious parallels with former British PM Tony Blair, who recently published his biography.

Not one of legendary director Polanski’s best but a good movie choice nevertheless, particularly if you enjoyed The Constant Gardener or Frost/Nixon.

Bonus: featurettes.
