Action comedy.

2011. 119 min.

With Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz.

Director: Michel Gondry.

Rating: 3/5

Funnyman Rogen plays Britt Reid, a freeloading playboy who doesn’t get along with his news-paper mogul dad. Britt’s life is turned upside down when his father suddenly dies and he’s left in charge of a media empire.

He finds an unlikely friend in his father’s trusted assistant, Kato (Chou) – who turns out to have special powers, can make cool weapons and is a martial arts expert – and they team up to form a crimefighting superhero team.

But it’s not all plain sailing – a crime boss (Christoph Waltz, the nasty Nazi in Inglourious Basterds) threatens to expose Britt and Kato’s secret and their relationship turns sour when both fall for the same girl (Diaz).

The real star of this movie based on a ‘30s radio series is Chou – he’s behind all the action. Diaz does her best with the little screen time she has.

The script (co-written by Rogen) isn’t bad but the humour falls flat at times. If you’re not into the superhero genre give it a miss.
