Forget any preconceived ideas you may have of how a family is supposed to look and function if you want to get the most out of this film because there’s much to appreciate in this hugely enjoyable movie.

Nic (Bening) and Jamie (Moore) are a lesbian couple who’ve each had a child, a son and a daughter, using sperm stock from the same donor, Paul (Ruffalo).

The kids are now teens and curious about their biological father.

They find him and, behind their mothers’ backs, arrange to meet him – and in the process kick off a series of events that make for entertaining viewing.

The Kids Are All Right is filled with hysterically funny, true-to-life and sad moments that will leave you questioning your outlook on life.

It has been nominated for four Oscars, including best film and best actress (for Bening).
