Prince CharlesQueen Elizabeth II and Kate’s parents will cover the costs of the wedding ceremony and reception, which is estimated to be about between R385 million and R440 million (£35 and £40 million pounds).

While this is more than the R330 million (£30 million) spent on Diana and Charles’ wedding, they did get married 30 years ago.

The British taxpayers are paying for the security and transportation of the newlyweds. Initially it was estimated that the British public would only have to fork out about R55 million (£5 million), but that number has jumped up to about R220 million (£20 million).

In addition to the security operation being the biggest in British history, today was made into a banking holiday, which means security personnel get double pay.
