Firefighter dies battling Knysna blaze

The Wildfire Support Twitter page confirmed Brad Richards' death on Friday morning.

A firefighter who was fighting for his life after he was badly burnt battling the Knysna fire has died.

Brad sustained burns to 70 percent of his body and succumbed to his injuries after a day in hospital.

This raises the death toll to five people since the fires began.

Another firefighter is currently fighting for his life in hospital after he sustained burns to 50 percent of his body.

According to News24, about 80 percent of the fireline was contained over the course of last night but 3 000 to 4 000 people remain displaced. Some evacuated areas have been declared safe.

The water supply in Knysna is running low.
