Five things to watch this weekend

See Robert De Niro in an unusual -- but brilliant -- new role on Friday, or watch Jean-Claude van Damme get up to his usual tricks. There's also some light-hearted fun in kiddies' movie G-Force and The Dilemma with Vince Vaughn to tickle your funny bone.

Friday 23 May

Everybody’s Fine

SABC3 8.30 pm

This is not the kind of movie you’re used to seeing Robert De Niro in, but it just shows how brilliant this guy is. In this flick he plays an awkward parent who realises after his wife dies that his only connection with his kids was through her. So he travels across the United States to reconnect with his estranged adult kids.

Bloodsport 8.30 pm

If that sounds too soppy for you, there’s always Jean-Claude van Damme in the role he plays to perfection – a kickboxer training hard so he can take revenge on a violent competitor in an underground tournament.

Saturday 24 May

SABC2 4 pm

The best spy movies are the ones with a comedy element. And what could be funnier than guinea pigs on an undercover operation? The kids will love this fun flick about a specially trained squad of guinea pigs trying to stop an evil billionaire from taking over the world.

The Dilemma

SABC3 7.30 pm

A man finds out his best friend’s wife is having an affair but he’s not sure how – or if – he should tell his pal. Normally this wouldn’t be a laughing matter, but when you’ve got funnymen Vince Vaughn and Kevin James in the lead roles, you know you’re in for a giggle.

Sunday 25 May

M-Net 8.05 pm

Jason Statham plays a jilted thief who’s trying to get back the cash his former gang stole from him. If you dig action movies with awesome fight scenes, do not – under any circumstances – miss this!
