Hende-Mari Strydom only took up bodybuilding in 2014.

Every one of Hende-Mari Strydom’s bulging muscles is clearly visible under her tiny bikini as she triumphantly lifts the World Fitness Federation’s Miss Universe trophy.

The Bloemfontein beauty picked up the sought after title this past weekend in Orlando, Florida.

But one thing needs to be understood: this year’s competition was no walk in the park. The event is one occasion where the who’s who of the bodybuilding world show up to compete for the top honours.

During a recent competition in Pretoria Hende-Mari cleaned out in no less than three divisions, including that of best athletic figure – and there she qualified for the international event.

Her impeccable physique is more impressive when you consider that she only took up bodybuilding in 2014.

Hende-Mari was a teacher at the St Michael Girls School in Rosestad in Bloemfontein but is currently completing her master’s degree in Business Administration.

She also represented South Africa in the WFF games in Europe earlier this year, where she ended up in the top 10.

“This is a dream come true,” said Hende-Mari shortly before leaving Orlando.

“I worked so hard to qualify for this event and could even take my daughter, Mika-Leigh, to Disney World. If I hadn’t worked so hard I would never have gotten that opportunity.”
