Earlier this year, YOU reported how designer Gert-Johan Coetzee had a competition for aspiring designers to win a bursary at the Northwest School of Design in Klerksdorp. After much anticipation, there’s finally a winner.

Quincy Thabang, an 18-year-old from Sasolburg has walked away with the prize. “I’m so excited about this opportunity, and I wanted to share that with my Granny,” he gushed.

The three-year course begins next year and is valued at R160 000.  “My dream for each winner of the Gert-Johan Coetzee bursary is that they become the next big thing, someone who will make their mark in the very competitive South African fashion industry. I am proud to be able to play a role in growing talent for the industry that I am so passionate about,” says Gert.
