According to initial reports, 11 people were killed and 20 injured in the blasts.

The main airport in the Belgian capital Brussels was shut down on Tuesday after two explosions were reported in its departure hall, local media report.

Belgian police have as yet confirmed only one death and several injuries. The state broadcaster reported the explosions at Zaventem airport were part of a "suicide attack".
No flights were leaving or arriving at the airport, the Belga news agency reported. It was not immediately clear if the incident was a terrorist attack, the broadcaster RTBF reports.

The country had been on high alert since the arrest in Brussels last week of Salah Abdeslam, a key suspect in the Paris terrorist attacks. UPDATE: More explosions were reported at a metro station in central Brussels. According to CNN, dozens of people have been injured. The nation's terror threat has been raised to highest level.
