Heartbreak after microlight crash in Johannesburg

A thrilling adventure turned to tragedy.

A man was killed and a teenage boy critically injured when their microlight crashed in Alrode, Alberton, on Wednesday, paramedics said.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen said paramedics found the aircraft and its two passengers had crashed into a veld.

The middle-aged pilot died on the scene.

The 16-year-old passenger was critically injured. He sustained massive head and chest trauma and multiple fractures. He was taken to Netcare Union Hospital.

The cause was still unknown. More information was not immediately available.
