Comedian Steve Carell is mourning the death of his beloved mum following her death on the eve of Mother's Day. As families across the US celebrated the annual holiday, the Foxcatcher star took to Twitter to honour former nurse Harriet, revealing the 90-year-old passed away on Saturday. "Harriet Theresa Carell October 15, 1925- May 7, 2016," the 53-year-old wrote. "Love You Mom".

She shared a photo of the trio on Twitter and captioned it, "My first #MothersDay! Crazy amazing! My mama and I send love and hugs to all the hard workin' mamas in the world." It was also a particularly poignant day for her former FABLife talk show co-host and fellow new mum Chrissy Teigen, whose husband, singer John Legend, heaped praise on the beauty as he showed off a new picture of their daughter Luna on Instagram.
"To my wonderful wife, @chrissyteigen," he began. "Luna and I are so lucky to have you in our lives. If our daughter can be even half as awesome as you, I will be so happy and proud. Happy 1st Mother's Day!" Former Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown had an emotional start to the day on Sunday, too: "Does anyone else always cry on Morhersday (sic)," she asked her followers. "I do,feel very blessed to 3 amazing daughter in my life they are my everything forever (sic)".
Singer Josh Groban, who is currently on tour in Europe, wrote, "Happy Mother's Day to my awesome mama!! Sending love from over a big pond on her day!", and fellow musician Josh Kelley sent his wishes to his wife, actress Katherine Heigl, promising to treat her to a date when he returns from his promotional trek.

"HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to my day to my beautiful wife @katherineheigl !!!!" he shared alongside an image of the flowers he had delivered. "I'll be home Tuesday baby and I'm taking you out on the town !!!! I love you!!!" Meanwhile, Room star Brie Larson shared the spotlight with her mum, Heather, as she hosted US comedy show Saturday Night Live this weekend, introducing her parent to the stage during her Mother's Day-themed opening monologue. Lady Gaga also used the holiday to underline her political allegiance ahead of this year's U.S. presidential election. "Happy Mother's Day @HillaryClinton," she wrote. "This county (sic) needs a mother and you're it. #HilaryBeOurMama".
