Weather warnings have been issued for certain parts of SA from tomorrow.

Heavy rains and a good chance of floods are being predicted for the next few days as well as parts of the Western Cape as well areas in the central part of the country.

The South African Weather Service has issues warnings and said that the rain will begin to fall by Tuesday night.

“There is a possibility for thunder showers for Tuesday evening, but Wednesday there will be the rain showers,” says Thabisile Ncleko, a spokesperson for the Cape weather office.

According to her the areas which will be worst hit are towns in the Overberg like Swellendam and Hermanus, as well as towns in the winelands, like Stellenbosch and Grabouw.

There is also a good chance that inclement conditions will affect towns along the west coast into the Northern Cape. Towns as far as north as Springbok should expect heavy rains.

For the Mother City a maximum of 26°C is expected for Tuesday, while Wednesday will be cooler with a maximum of 14°C. In Stellenbosch the temperature on Tuesday will be 35°C while it will drop to 25°C by Wednesday.

Temperature in the central Southern Cape, including Swellendamn, will drop from 31°C on Tuesday to 24°C on Wednesday.

According to the Weather office rains are going to be heavy with more than 50mm of rain falling within 24 hours. For Cape Town and surrounding areas for which the warnings were issued, 10 to 20mm of rain is predicted.

“It’s difficult to determine if the rains will bring any relief to the current drought conditions,” says Thabisile. “Flooding cause’s damage and it doesn’t help much if the rains are once-off.”

And after the recent floods in Gauteng how does the weather for that area look like over the next few days? In Pretoria there is 30% chance of rain on Tuesday and 60% on Wednesday. In Johannesburg a 60% chance of rain is predicted for both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rainy weather is also forecast for the greater part of the Free State, with 60% rain predicted for Bloemfontein on Tuesday and Wednesday.
