Hugh Jackman: Being bald is the best

Hugh Jackman strongly believes everyone should shave off their hair at least once.

The Australian actor's latest movie is Peter Pan story Pan, in which he portrays the infamous Blackbeard. To get into character, Hugh decided on an image overhaul which saw him getting rid of his locks in favour of a completely bald head.

"I really shaved my head. I recommend everyone to shave their head at least once in their life," he told Access Hollywood.

"For me, I'm a typical guy – lazy. So hair is just a hassle."

Hugh wasn't pressured to get rid of his hair by movie bosses; he was actually told that if he wanted to, he could go for a bald cap instead. But after hearing it would mean an additional 45 minutes in the make-up chair, the 46-year-old actor was quick to book in for a haircut.

The star also has a pointy beard for the movie, which was also real - although he jokes he's "not sure (he) should be so proud of that".

Initially the star was happy with his facial hair, but he's previously admitted that his son Oscar brought him back down to earth with a bang. As he left the house to play Blackbeard, Oscar commented that the character might need to be renamed black-and-white beard thanks to Hugh's greys. This led him to colour his stubble to ensure they were all hidden.

Hugh is famed for going all in when it comes to his roles. He started playing superhero Wolverine in 2000 and is renowned for his dedication to bulking up for the furious character.

In 2013 he revealed he was packing in around 6,000 calories in an eight-hour period and then fasting for the rest of the day in a bid to put on muscle. He also turned to action hero Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for tips.

“I called him actually... because I was like, ‘Man, I have a feeling this is going on. I have to cut down and really lean down in size,’ and he told me a number of things,” Hugh explained previously. “First of all, he said, ‘When you’re lean-ing down, still keep your strength. You can still go in and push weights, so that as soon as you start eating again you’ll go back quickly’. But, he said, ‘You gotta eat 6,000 calories a day, you’ve gotta train three hours.’”
