Daryl Impey's second drug test has come back negative.

Questions surrounding South African cyclist and Tour de France stage winner Daryl Impey's doping scandal intensified yesterday when it was announced his second drug test had proved negative.

It was announced earlier in the week that Impey had tested positive for the banned stimulant Probenecid on 6 February.

But Impey said on Talk Radio 702 yesterday a second test he’d undergone had come back negative.

"I am extremely distressed by the finding, as I have always raced clean throughout my career.  Every result that I have achieved to date has been as a result of hard work and dedication on my part," he said on his personal website.

In the interview, he stressed he had never used stimulants and had a long record of clean tests.
