Initially it was believed that Susan had taken her own life, as she was found hanging from an electric cable behind the bathroom door.

As yet there are no answers to the questions surrounding the mysterious death of a woman at a Spier wine estate.

Police have confirmed that an investigation into the death of Susan Rohde (47) is already underway.

Susan, the wife of Jason Rohde (47), executive head of the property group Sotheby’s International Realty in South Africa was found dead on 24 July in her and her husband’s hotel room in Spier, close to Stellenbosch.

The couple attended an annual Sotheby’s conference on Saturday 23 July and were due to fly back to Johannesburg on the Sunday.

At first police opened an inquest into her death, but according to a spokesperson for the police, Captain Frederick van Wyk, the case was changed into a murder investigation on 4 August after the postmortem was completed.

On Wednesday he confirmed to YOU there have been no further developments. “The investigation continues,” he said.

Netwerk24 had earlier reported that Susan was “strangled with bare hands.”

Rapport reported that before Susan’s death the couple had fallen out over Jason’s alleged extra marital affair. The couple have three daughters.

A spokesperson for Sotheby’s South Africa, Samantha Bartlett, described the incident as a tragedy. After being questioned she said that the case and the circumstances surrounding Susan’s death are still being investigated. She also confirmed that Jason is still on leave.
