Isis’ chilling final message to James Foley’s parents

Five days before US journalist James Foley’s death, the Islamic extremist group who held him captive sent a email to his parents. John and Diane Foley agreed to make public in the interest of telling their son’s story.

Addressed to the American government and “their sheep like citizens”, the Islamist State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) promise to “unsheathe their swords” and not stop until “we quench our thirst for your blood”.

“You and your citizens will pay the price of your bombings! The first of which being the blood of the American citizen, James Foley!

“He will be executed as a DIRECT result of your transgressions towards us!”

The Global Post, the news organisation for which James worked, published the email in full, although they said it contained factual errors.

“In addition to the extreme views it espouses, the email contains factual inaccuracies,” the Post said in preamble to the email. “For example, the Foley family was not “given many chances to negotiate” for Jim’s release. After more than a year without contact, the Foleys received their first message from Jim’s captors on Nov. 26, 2013, asking for money, fast.”

After proving that they had James captive, Isis demanded € 100 million (R1,42 billion) or the release of certain prisoners held by the US, the news organisation said.

James was killed on August 19. A graphic video of his execution was uploaded onto YouTube.
