Unbelievable! Chad, Micheal and Hungary's Laszlo Cseh touched in a three-way tie.

In 2012 however, Chad caused the upset of the London Games, beating the American legend in the 200 m to win the gold. He won a silver medal in the 100 m race that same year.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely Chad will have another opportunity to swim against Phelps. The 100 m was the last individual event for the highly-decorated Olympian, who now has an incredible 27 medals to his name. 22 of those are gold.

Phelps' last ever event will be the final of the 4 x 100 m medley relay.
