The next few months are going to be super exciting for the third-in-line to the throne!

It's hard to believe it's been a whole four years since the world waited with bated breath as the Duchess of Cambridge prepared to give birth to her first child with Prince William in the Lindo Wing of St Mary's Hospital in London.

But when "The Great Kate Wait" finally ended, she emerged glowing with a little prince cuddled up in her arms.

Four years of chubby-cheeked, golden-haired cuteness have followed -- with a few cheeky little tantrums in between.

Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge celebrates his fourth birthday today, having just returned from a busy trip to Poland and Germany with his parents and baby sis, Princess Charlotte (2). To mark the special occasion, the palace released a new photo of George, which they shared on Instagram and Twitter on Saturday. The photograph was taken at Kensington Palace at the end of June by Chris Jackson. "The Duke and Duchess are very pleased to share this lovely picture as they celebrate Prince George's fourth birthday, and would like to thank everyone for all of the kind messages they have received," they captioned the happy head-and-shoulders shot.

According to MailOnline, his doting mom Kate has already said she is not sure George “has any idea what’s going to hit him” when he starts going to school full-time.

The young royal is all set to start at private day school Thomas’s Battersea come September.

Up till now, Georgie has been attending nursery school close to his parent's home in Norfolks, Anmer Hall.

Thomas's, which charges around £17 604 (R295 000) a year, "is a busy, thriving, purposeful school, educating 540 boys and girls between the ages of four and 13", according to their website.

"As you would expect of any Thomas’s school, the most important school rule is to 'Be Kind'.

"We offer a rich and broad curriculum, with Art, Ballet, Drama, ICT, French, Music and PE all taught by specialist teachers from a child’s first day in school."

The whole family is set to make the move from the Norfolk countryside to Kensington Palace in London, after William (35) gives up his job as an air ambulance pilot to become a "full-time royal", according to MailOnline.

Kate has described her cherubic son as a “noisy” youngster and a “really lovely little boy”, while dad Wills revealing he has a naughty streak.

"He's a little bit of a rascal, I'll put it that way. He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure, but he's doing very well at the moment."

But the "little monkey" was unusually shy on his recent appearances in Germany and Poland, clinging to his dad's hand and scuffing the ground with his feet as his parents greeted officials.

His sister, on the other hand, was completely at ease with the attention, even dropping into a sweet curtsy with some coaxing from Kate.
