Action movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme recently proved he can still pull off his famous splits, even while balanced between two moving trucks. Not bad for a 53-year-old.

In a new ad for Volvo trucks, the movie star looks perfectly serene as he folds his arms, splits and effortlessly balances between two trucks reversing down a road. “What you see is a body crafted to perfection,” Van Damme says in a voice-over. “A pair of legs engineered to defy the laws of physics and a mind-set to master the most epic of splits.

Volvo claims that although some safety equipment was digitally removed from the final ad, no other camera trickery was used and the stunt is genuine.

Nicknamed the muscles from Brussels, Van Damme became a household name in the 1980s and 90s after starring in popular action movies. Although he wasn’t known for his acting talent, he wowed audiences with his martial arts skills and flexibility, especially the splits.

He starred in number of movie flops in the 2000 but made a comeback in 2008 with the critically acclaimed JCVD, a movie in which he plays a fictionalised version of himself. He was also one of the bad guys in last year’s action hit The Expendables Two.

His new movie, Enemies Closer, is set to open in the US later this year.
