Julia Roberts refuses to push herself to follow a strict diet and work out plan because it would drive her "crazy".

The Pretty Woman star has managed to maintain her svelte physique and youthful looks throughout the years, and she credits doing everything in moderation for her age-defying beauty.

"I feel like if I knew all the things to do (in terms of exercise), I would probably look like I was put together with tape," the 48-year-old told InStyle magazine. "I would just go crazy.

"So I think, better just to remain calm, drink your water, get your sleep and be joyful."

Julia, a mother of three, also uses the same philosophy when it comes to her family meals.

"We definitely try to eat mindfully," she explained. "As I always say to my kids, 'You have to eat the good stuff to get the good stuff.'"

The actress' stunning figure recently landed her a 2015 spring/summer modelling campaign with top French fashion brand Givenchy, and she has since become great friends with creative director Riccardo Tisci.

Julia had never met the celebrity favourite before her big gig, but instead of being wracked with nerves prior to their meeting, she was simply excited to tackle the high-profile job.

"I didn't have any apprehension," she recalled. "It was an unexpected invitation, and one that I accepted readily.

"It was such a funny shoot, maybe one of the all-time easiest 'workdays' I've ever had. And then there's Riccardo... The day of the shoot, he was wearing work boots and, I think, a red plaid flannel (shirt). He was so unassuming... Now we're just pals."

And seeing herself in the finished advertisements was a feeling she will never forget: "I remember being in New York and walking down Madison Avenue, past the under-construction Givenchy store. All of a sudden there's... me. It's one of those rare moments, especially in my advanced supermodeling age, when it was like, 'OK, that's cool.'"
