“How do you lose all the weight after having two kids?” a university professor awkwardly asked the duchess yesterday - but her response was as charming as ever.

It’s probably the question every mom who meets the Duchess of Cambridge is dying to ask – but how do you ask the potential future Queen consort of England how she has such an enviably slim figure?

Well, Jamia Mellia Islamia university professor BulBul Dhar-James clearly had no qualms about the impropriety of the question, when he asked her at a garden party yesterday: “How do you lose all the weight after having two kids?”

With her usual good humour, Kate laughed and took the question in her stride.

“I am running after my kids!” the 34-year-old said.

Any mom with two under two will be able to attest to the fact that there's plenty of darting around involved in taking care of young kids – particularly one as boisterous as little George (2). His little sister Charlotte will turn one next month.

The duke (33) and duchess rubbed shoulders with academics and other Indian elite at the tea party in honour of the Queen’s upcoming 90th birthday at the gardens of the British High Commissioner's official residence in New Delhi yesterday.

The mom-of-two looked particularly beautiful for the event – she was greeted with gasps of admiration as she arrived at the party in a nude and black patterned  skirt and top was by designer Alice Temperley, MailOnline reports.

During his chat with Kate, Professor Dhar-James said he also took the opportunity to ask her how she manages to stay so pleasant during all the royal engagements.

“I asked her ‘aren't you tired of smiling?’” he recalled.”'And she said ‘I'm just reciprocating. Everyone is so warm’.

“They were both really gracious. She was so welcoming and warm. We told her ‘You look much better in person than in your photographs’.”

Kate and William are visiting the country as part of their week-long tour of India and Bhutan. The royal couple touched down in India on Saturday for a jam-packed few days of meet-and-greets and appearances.

Earlier that day, the couple paid their respects to India's war dead at the country's national memorial in Delhi, during which Kate and her Marilyn Monroe-style white dress come off second best after a battle with the wind. Yesterday also saw Prince William and his wife pay a visit to the country’s nation war memorial, India Gate, and a museum in Old Birla House, where Mahatma Gandhi spent the final years of his life.
Today the duke and duchess are already out and about, visiting the Salaam Baalak Trust in New Delhi. According to Kensington Palace, the NGO works to help vulnerable children from the streets of Delhi, providing urgent care and mental health support -- a cause that is particularly close to Kate's heart.
