Solo artist and former member of Destiny's Child Kelly Rowland recently released a new song that's received quite a response. The music artist airs her envy of Beyoncé and the abuse she tolerated in a personal relationship.
The song Dirty Laundry offers a deep reflection on Kelly's life while being a member of the hit trio, and her struggles coping with the demons she faced after the group ended.
Like a confessional diary entry the song makes reference to the drama that occurred behind the scenes in her personal life while Beyonce's career flourished. She addresses how she had to deal with being in the shadow of the megastar and how she refused to address the multiple issues she was facing, preferring instead to put on a brave front.
"While my sister was on stage, killing it like a motherf**ker
I was enraged, feeling it like a motherf**ker
Bird in a cage, you would never know what I was dealing with
Went our separate ways, but I was happy she was killing it
Bittersweet, she was up, I was down
No lie, I feel good for her, but what do I do now?"
And her emotionally and physically abusive relationship also comes to light as she sings about her life out of the media and the pain she endured at the hands of a partner.
"I was battered
He hittin the window like it was me, until it shattered
He pulled me out, he said, "Don't nobody love you but me
Not your mama, not your daddy and especially not Bey"
He turned me against my sister
I missed ya"
Many commentators on Twitter have commended her for her bravery to speak honestly about such personal and sensitive issues. Kelly's decision to finally let it all out and to let go of her demons has been well received.
What do you think about people airing their dirty laundry in public or on social media?
