Khloé Kardashian’s basketball player beau James Harden is reportedly “being as supportive as humanly possible” as she cares for her estranged husband Lamar Odom.

The former Los Angeles Lakers player was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel last Tuesday after allegedly suffering a drug overdose induced by cocaine and an herbal pill similar to Viagra. The 35-year-old athlete survived via the assistance of life support for several days until he emerged from a coma on Friday.

Khloé, who is still legally married to Lamar, has been overseeing all critical medical decisions on his behalf, and her current boyfriend, James, has been more than happy to offer his support.

'The last thing he would want to do would be to add more stress to her plate'

"He is so nice and being as supportive as humanly possible given the situation," a source told People magazine. "Lamar essentially has zero consistent family other than the Kardashians, and James understands that. The last thing he would want to do would be to add more stress to her plate."

Khloé and James were first linked romantically in June. Around the time they started dating rumours emerged Lamar was incensed about their romance, but James has repeatedly taken the high road in spite of any perceived ill will.

"He never had any intention of going to Vegas,” another insider told the outlet of James’ thought process. “He supports her (Kardashian) of course, but understands she needs space and to be with Lamar.”

Lamar is currently being treated at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Although his prognosis was initially dire, with reports suggesting many of his vital organs had failed, it’s believed he is now healthy enough for a transfer to a medical facility in Los Angeles after having a breathing tube removed.

“Everyone is waiting for the doctors word right now but Lamar will be returning to L.A. for further treatment," a source told ET Online. "It will all be based on when he gets stronger and stabilised, but we are looking at a matter of days.

"He is showing improvement in his condition, however, regaining complete organ function continues to be a top medical priority.”
