Life of Pi on the silver screen

Put together the fabulous book Life of Pi and a brilliant film director and you have the makings of sheer movie magic.

The book took the literary world by storm, selling nine million copies and winning the prestigious Man Booker Prize in 2002.

But almost everyone in Hollywood considered it one of those stories that would be impossible to adapt to the big screen – there was just too much imagery, too much going on in the main character’s head, to make a successful film.

But just look at what’s happened now.

Not only has Yann Martel’s book Life of Pi made it to the silver screen, it’s in 3D.

And it’s directed by Ang Lee, one of the most respected directors in Tinseltown – although even he wasn’t convinced it could be done when offered the task.
